IP reputation is useful, but it is not a complete decision.

Lists age quickly

Provider labels, abuse history, and proxy classifications can be stale by the time traffic reaches production.

Context improves confidence

Reputation works best when joined with ASN, route, account history, browser posture, and request timing.

Enforcement needs gradients

A risky IP can justify more scrutiny without forcing an immediate block. Step-up controls often preserve more signal than hard denial.
